Dr. Courtney Slater (she, her, hers) is a licensed psychologist practicing in Philadelphia, PA (PA-PS017902). She is also an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University.
Education: Dr. Slater completed her Bachelor’s degree in psychology at the State University of New York at Geneseo. She received her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in clinical psychology at the Rosemead School of Psychology in La Mirada, California. While at Rosemead, Dr. Slater received specialized education in the integration of religion, spirituality, and psychology.
Current work: I provide therapy to individuals 16 and older. I works with clients on issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship problems, spiritual issues, and loss and grief. I can also help clients struggling with trauma, ADHD, and sleep difficulties. I work primarily from a psychodynamic perspective, appreciating the underlying causes to the difficulties we face. I also integrates techniques from other approaches, such as gestalt, emotion-focused therapy, short-term psychodynamic therapy, acceptance, mindfulness, and cognitive-behavioral therapy, depending on the client's unique problems and goals.
My approach is also informed by an appreciation for deep listening and honoring the Sacred in each person. Therefore, I am not about controlling or coercing anyone in therapy. Instead, I aim to listen deeply, while attending to your whole being with openness and compassion. Together we will listen mindfully and pay attention to what needs to be said.
